Spring is already here. Along with it, cleaning our homes and getting rid of the unnecessary things. Instead of only cleaning our house, we should also think about cleaning our working area, either at home or at work. This is extremely important, because if we can’t access the things we use on a daily basis easily and waste a lot of time searching for them, it has a negative impact on our motivation at work and our productivity. Therefore, we should spend some time organising our working spot. Who doesn’t like to have a fresh start?
Every area where we do our work (either for school, university, work, etc.) should inspire us and give us motivation to work. It’s important that our work space (either a small part of your room or the entire office) is decorated in a fun way and has our personal touch.
The first thing we should do when it comes to organising our desks and/or office is to get everything out of it. Then start going through all the papers and documents and sort them out. Throw away anything you don’t need anymore. Usually, our drawers are full of unnecessary papers, dysfunctional pens or markers and junk. Try organising it by using some drawer dividers (you can create your own ones) so that everything is visible and easily approachable.
If you have space, it’s recommended to buy a small noticeboard so that you can keep your reminders there (I know we all have reminders on our phones, but when it’s in front of us, it’s easier to remember), nice motivation quotes, our favourite pictures, anything that will motivate us and make our time pleasant in the office.
Try using a planer. It’s very helpful in keeping us organised. There, we can write all of our meetings, coffee with our friends, homework and anything else that we need to do. I recommend using markers of different colours, so that you know exactly which colour is for which thing and it’ll be way easier when we want to look for something very quickly and it looks fun when it’s so colorful.
Moreover, it’s great to put some plants or flowers into out working area. Not only will it look better and more fun, but also it’ll give us some motivation to work and they have a therapeutical and health effect on us, too. Here you can read very good articles about the influence of plants in our office/workplace and which ones are good to keep indoor.
Don’t forget to adapt your working space to yourself. Therefore, don’t decorate, nor organise it the way it makes you feel uncomfortable. Do it the way you like it, so that you can easily function there.
Organise your workspace so that it always encourages you to work and be creative.
